Some Shabby Chic-elements

Hoewel ik graag een 'pure' stijl in ons huis tot stand wil en probeer te brengen, dwaal ik vaak toch weer af in verschillende richtingen. Mijn man vindt alles wat ik in huis doe goed, zolang het maar niet teveel roze en teveel in 'bloemetjes-stijl' (zoals hij dat noemt) wordt. Maar ik kan niet ontkennen dat er toch hier en daar wat shabby chic-stijl opduikt bij ons...

Although I'd like and try to create a 'pure' style in our house, I do often deviate into other directions. My husband agrees with everything I do in our home, but it shouldn't be too much in pink and too much 'flower-style' (as he calls it). But I cannot deny that some shabby chic-elements appear here and there...

Bien que j'aimerais et que j'essaie de créer un style 'pur' dans notre maison, je m'écarte pourtant souvent dans d'autres directions. Mon mari est d'accord avec tout ce que je fais à l'intérieur, tant qu'il n y aura pas trop de rose et trop le style 'petites fleurs' (comme il l'appelle). Mais je ne peux pas nier qu'il y a par ici ou par là des éléments 'shabby chic' qui apparaissent...

Great find

Gisteren heb ik me toch de vondst van de eeuw gedaan! Nou ja, van de 'eeuw' is lichtelijk overdreven natuurlijk, maar dit mooie kastje met een facet geslepen spiegel erop is echt één van mijn meest geweldige vondsten tot nu toe. Het stond pal voor mijn neus toen ik de kringwinkel binnenliep, en een medewerker wist me te vertellen dat het stuk die morgen nog maar net in de winkel stond. Heb ik toch even geluk gehad, want meestal wordt dit soort schoonheden gelijk opgekocht door kapitaalkrachtige antiquairs die deze dan weer in hun eigen winkel voor de drievoudige prijs of meer verkopen. Dit wordt ons badkamermeubel voor onze toekomstige badkamer. Eventueel nog eerst een lik verf eroverheen, mooie wasbak er bovenop en dan aansluiten op de waterleiding. Voorlopig is er nog geen plaats om het kastje ergens binnen te plaatsen en laten we het nog even buiten op het terras staan.

Yesterday I had the time of my life when I found this beautiful cupboard with a facet-cut mirror on it. It's really one of my greatest founds until now. It stood just in front of me when I entered our thriftshop and one of the co-workers told me that this piece had been brought into the shop only that morning. Lucky me, because usually this kind of beauties are bought immediately by moneyed antique-dealers who sell them afterwards in their own shops for a triple price or more. This will be the bathroom-piece for our future bathroom. Maybe it needs first some new paint, we'll put a nice washbowl on top of it and then it can be connected to the waterdistribution. For the moment there isn't any space to put the furniture inside and so it will stay for a little while outside on our terrace.

Hier j'avais le temps de ma vie en trouvant ce joli meuble avec un miroir en facette (biseauté... Merci Sarah!) dessus. C'est vraiment une de mes plus grandes trouvailles jusque maintenant. Je l'ai trouvé juste devant mon nez en entrant dans notre brocante (kringloopwinkel) et un des collaborateurs me disait que la pièce n'était rentrée en magasin que le matin même. Quelle chance pour moi, puisque d'habitude des riches antiquairs viennent acheter immédiatement ce genre de joyaux pour les revendre après dans leur magasins à eux pour un triple prix ou plus. Ceci va être le meuble pour notre future salle de bains. Eventuellement d'abord un peu de peinture, un beau lavabo dessus et après le tout peut être raccordé à la conduite d'eau. Pour l'instant il n'y a pas de place à l'intérieur pour déposer le meuble et donc il restera encore un peu dehors sur notre terrasse.

Diningroom update

Onze gasten waren dik tevreden na het mooie feest van het Pinksterweekend, maar ikzelf iets minder: de vloer die ik met zoveel moeite en energie had opgeboend zag er niet zo fraai uit na al die voetstappen die hun sporen hadden achtergelaten op het hout. Dit weekend heb ik dan ook weer op mijn knieën gezeten om verschillende delen op te schuren en opnieuw in te olieën. Hieronder staat de hoge kast die onlangs ook nog geschilderd is. Op de raampjes heb ik een charmante monogram-sticker (van Jeanne d'Arc Living Denemarken) geplakt en ook de knopjes zijn nieuw.

Our guests were very satisfied after the beautiful feast of the Whitsun-weekend, but I was a bit less happy: the floor which I had prepared with so much love and energy didn't look very nice after all those footsteps which had left their prints on the wood. This weekend I've been sitting on my knees again to polish several parts and to put some new oil on it. Up here on the picture you can see the high cupboard that has also been painted lately. On the small windows I put charming monogram-stickers (from Jeanne d'Arc Living Denmark) and the knobs are new as well.

Nos hôtes étaient très contents après la fête durant le weekend de la Pentecôte, mais moi-même je l'étais un peu moins: le sol que j'avais préparé avec tant d'amour et d'énergie n'était plus si beau après tous ces pieds qui avaient laissé leurs traces sur le bois. Ce weekend donc j'étais de nouveau à genoux pour poncer quelques endroits et pour y remettre d'huile. Au-dessus sur l'image il y a le haut placard qui a été paint aussi récemment. J'ai collé un charmant sticker-monogramme (de Jeanne d'Arc Living Danmark) sur les petites fenêtres; et les boutons sont neufs également.

Beautiful days

Onze kleine meid heeft gisteren/Pinksterzondag haar grote feest van de eerste Communie gevierd en het was een pracht van een dag met allemaal lieve mensen om ons heen. Zo'n stralend mooi kind dat met zoveel innerlijke overtuiging een eerste geloofsbelijdenis aflegt... het heeft me diep ontroerd. Ik ben God dankbaar voor al Zijn gaven.

Our little girl has celebrated yesterday/Whit Sunday her feast of her first Communion and it was a gorgeous day with lots of dear people around us. Such a beautiful child who makes her first confession of faith with such an inner conviction... it touched me deeply. I thank God for all His gifts.

Notre fille a célébré hier/Dimanche de Pentecôte sa grande fête de la première Communion et c'était une journée splendide avec beaucoup de gens qui nous sont chers autour de nous. Une si belle petite qui fait sa première profession de foi avec une telle conviction intérieure... cela m'a beaucoup touché. Je remercie Dieu pour tous Ses dons.

One more chair to go...

Om het plaatje compleet te maken heb ik onze donkerbruine eetkamerstoelen ook maar een verfbeurt gegeven. Drie stoelen zijn inmiddels al klaar, de vierde is vandaag aan de beurt.

To complete the decor I've used some paint as well for our darkbrown diningroom-chairs. Three chairs have been finished meanwhile, the fourth one will be done today.

Pour compléter l'image j'ai utilisé de la peinture également pour nos chaises en couleur brun- fonçé. Trois chaises ont été finies entretemps, la quatrième va être faite aujourd'hui.

Gisteren nog even bij de kringwinkel binnengewipt en daar een mooie witte gehaakte sprei gevonden, samen met dit glazen potje met een deksel en onderzetter van geslagen metaal. Leuk om wattebollen in te doen. De prachtig ruwe stof komt van White Living. Daar moet nog een hoes van gemaakt worden voor een groot vloerkussen. Voilà, ik moet nu gaan verderwerken.

Yesterday I went for a quick visit to our thriftshop and I found this beautiful white crochet bedspread, as well as this little glass container with a cover and 'holder' made of hammered iron. Nice to put cotton pads in it. The gorgeous rough fabric is from White Living and it has to become a cover for a large floor-cushion. Well, I've to continue my work now.

Hier je suis rapidement allée dans notre 'kringloopwinkel' (brocante) et j'y ai trouvé un joli couvre-lit blanc au crochet, ainsi que ce petit pot en verre avec un couvercle et un 'pied' en métal ciselé. Pour mettre des ouates dedans. Le beau tissu rugueux vient de White Living et ça deviendra une housse pour un grand coussin. Voilà, je dois continuer mon travail maintenant.

Happy me!

Het is bijna niet te geloven, maar onze mooie, nieuwe eiken parketvloer ligt er helemaal! We hebben hier nog de hele zaterdagavond doorgewerkt en ik moet alleen nog alles afwerken met witte olie. Ik ben zo blij met deze vloer waar ik 4 lange jaren op heb moeten wachten! De eetkamer lijkt er zowaar langer en ruimer door. De lelijke tegelvloer die er onder ligt was me een doorn in het oog, maar een mens kan wel veel wensen hebben, soms zijn er obstakels of redenen waardoor iets niet direct gerealiseerd kan worden.

It's almost incredible, but we've got our beautiful new oak floor! All Saturday-night we've still been working on it and now I've just to finish with a special white oil. I'm so happy with this floor for which I've been waiting during 4 long years! Our diningroom seems to be larger and more spacious now. The ugly tiles which lay underneath were an eyesore to me, but one can have a lot of wishes, sometimes there are obstacles or reasons why something cannot be realised immediately.

C'est presque incroyable, mais notre joli parquet neuf en chêne est mis! Tout le samedi-soir nous avons encore travaillé dessus et je dois juste finir avec une huile blanche spéciale. Je suis tellement heureuse avec ce sol que j'ai attendu pendant 4 longues années! Notre salle à manger semble même être plus large et spacieuse maintenant. Le laid carrelage qui est en dessous m'exaspérait, mais on peut avoir beaucoup de désirs, parfois il y a des obstacles ou des raisons pour lesquels quelque chose ne peut pas être réalisé tout de suite.
