Anu´s gift

In het vervolg wordt dit mooie, zelfgemaakte zakje gebruikt voor het stijlvol opbergen van zakdoeken. Voordien legde ik mijn zakdoek ´s nachts gewoon onder mijn kussen op bed; nu mag hij op het nachtkastje blijven liggen. En dat dankzij Anu (Valloittava Valkoinen-blog) die me dit mooie hoesje heeft gestuurd vanuit Finland! De leuke vintage-stof past trouwens ook nog helemaal bij verschillende dekbedsets in groen-blauwe tinten die we in huis hebben. Anu, je hebt de spijker op de kop geslagen! Kiitoksia paljon! :)

In future this beautiful handmade pocket will be used for putting away elegantly my handkerchiefs. Until now I just laid my handkerchief under my pillow on the bed during the night; now it may stay on the bedside cupboard, thanks to Anu (Valloittava Valkoinen-blog) who sent this lovely pocket to me from Finland! The nice vintage-pattern and tissu match by the way very well some of the bedlinen in green-blue tints which we have in our home. Anu, you hit the right nail on the head! Kiitoksia paljon! :)

Désormais cette jolie pochette faite-maison va être utilisée pour ranger de façon élégante mes mouchoirs. Avant je mettais mon mouchoir tout simplement sous l´oreiller au lit pendant la nuit; maintenant il peut rester sur la table de nuit. Et c´est grâce à Anu (du blog Valloittava Valkoinen) qui m´a envoyé cette belle pochette de la Finlande! Le tissu ´vintage´ et le dessin vont d´ailleurs très bien avec certain linge de lit dans des tons verts-bleus que nous avons chez nous. Anu, tu as bien choisi ce cadeau! Kiitoksia paljon! :)

Gifts and more gifts...

Gisteren hebben we met ons gezin de namiddag doorgebracht bij Annelies (Le Ciel Flamand-blog), haar man G. en hun 2 jongens. Beiden zijn gepassioneerd door (veelal Franse) brocante- & antiek-markten en hun Vlaamse herenhuis, hun interieur en tuin zijn echt een prachtige afspiegeling van die passie! Het is goed toeven bij hen en in hun gezellige keuken met Franse charme en met zicht op de mooie, idyllische tuin zou je uren kunnen blijven zitten... en genieten van het plaatje. Onlangs heeft Annelies dit schitterende Maria-beeld voor me meegebracht van een markt in Parijs (het was toch in Parijs, A., of ergens anders?) en ik heb het gisteren van haar gekregen, helemaal voor niets. De schoonheid van deze authentieke Madonna fascineert me echt en het is trouwens hetzelfde beeld dat ook in het boek Franske Stemninger staat (blz. 92). Een schitterend cadeau, waar ik heel blij mee ben! Het mooie witte hart komt van de getalenteerde borduur-artieste Gabriele van de blog Eles kleine Wunderwelt, van wie ik ook weer een ongelofelijk feest-pakket heb ontvangen... ook zomaar, uit het hart. En van Anu van Valloittava Valkoinen die ook weer aan me gedacht heeft... Maar dat verhaal is voor de volgende keer.

Yesterday we spent the afternoon with our little family at Annelies´ (Le Ciel Flamand-blog) and her husband G.´s (and their 2 boys) home. They are both passionated by (mostly French) flea- and antique-markets and their Flemish mansion, its interior and the garden are really a gorgeous reflection of this passion! It´s so good to stay in their home and in the cozy kitchen with French charm and with a view on the lovely, idyllic garden you could just sit there for hours... and enjoy the scenery. Recently Annelies found this beautiful Holy Virgin-statue on a market in Paris and yesterday she gave it to me, as a free gift. The beauty of this authentic Madonna really fascinates me and it´s by the way the same statue as in the Franske Stemninger-book (page 92). I´m very pleased with this great gift! The beautiful white heart comes from the talented embroidery-artist Gabriele from the blog Eles kleine Wunderwelt, who sent me again an incredible lovely parcel... also just like that, from the heart. And Anu from Valloittava Valkoinen who thought about me again as well... But that´s a story for next time!

Hier - avec notre petite famille - nous avons passés l´après-midi chez Annelies (Le Ciel Flamand-blog), son mari G. et leurs 2 garçons. Ils sont tous les deux des passionés de marchés aux puces et des brocantes (surtout en France); leur manoir flamand, son intérieur et le jardin sont vraiment une magnifique réflection de cette passion! C´est si bon d´être chez eux et on pourrait rester des heures et des heures dans leur cuisine agréable avec son charme français et avec vue sur le joli jardin idyllique. Récemment Annelies a trouvé cette très belle statue de Vierge sur un marché de Paris et elle me l´a offert hier, comme ça, en cadeau. La beauté de cette Vierge authentique me fascine vraiment et c´est d´ailleurs la même statue comme on voit dans le livre Franske Stemninger (page 92). Un merveilleux cadeau, dont je suis très heureuse! Le joli coeur blanc vient de la talentueuse artiste de la broderie Gabriele du blog Eles kleine Wunderwelt , qui m´a envoyé de nouveau un superbe paquet... également comme ça, tout droit du coeur. Et Anu de Valloittava Valkoinen qui a aussi encore pensé à moi... mais ça, c´est une histoire pour la prochaine fois!

Thriftshop-stuff

Eigenlijk zijn wij ook gewoon blije mensen zonder de Valentijn-heisa, maar ook in de kringloopwinkel hadden ze dit thema als decoratie gebruikt in een aparte hoek. Ik ben daar met een grote boog omheen gelopen, omdat er alleen wat knalrode plastic hartjes en nog wat andere frutsels lagen. En mijn blije gevoelens vandaag komen door deze spulletjes: een klein Maria-beeldje - dat wellicht op reis zal gaan richting Nederland - en een paar oude schotels. En ik denk dan aan al die mensen die wellicht niet weten dat ze mij en anderen echt gelukkig maken met het wegdoen van hun ´rommel´!

We´re actually also happy folks without all the Valentine-huzza, but even in our thriftshop there was a corner with this theme as decoration. I avoided that corner, since there were only some plastic hearts in a fulminating red and some other small stuff. And my happy feelings today come from these things here: a small Holy Virgin-statue - which will probably travel to the Netherlands - and some old dishes. And then I think about all those people who don´t realize maybe that they make me and others very happy with their ´rubbish´!

Nous sommes des gens heureux, même sans tout le tintouin autour de la Saint Valentin, mais même dans notre dépôt-vente il y avait un coin à part avec ce thème comme déco. J´ai évité ce lieu, puisqu´il n´y avait que quelques petits coeurs rouge-vif en plastic et quelques autres bricoles. Mes sentiments de joie aujourd´hui viennent de ces affaires-ci: une petite statue de la Vierge - qui partira probablement en voyage aux Pays Bas - et de ces vieux plats. Et je pense alors à tous ces gens qui ne savent peut-être pas qu´ils me rendent - et d´autres avec moi - très heureuse en jetant tout leur ´camelot´!

Broken branch

Inderdaad is er gisteren een tak van onze olijfboom afgebroken en de kleinere takken daarvan zitten nu verwerkt in deze krans... Dat is nou een voordeel uit een nadeel halen. Onze zolder ligt er nog ruw en onafgewerkt bij, maar dat is een mooie setting voor foto´s, vind ik zelf. Binnenkort ga ik ergens op internet een room-planner downloaden en dan beginnen met het visueel inrichten van deze ruimte. We weten namelijk nog niet of de trap op dezelfde plaats blijft, of dat die ergens anders geplaatst zal worden. Op de foto´s staan ook mijn gekoesterde oude Tolix-stoelen die ik vorig jaar gevonden had in een brocante; een echte gelukstreffer, aangezien er blijkbaar toch veel jacht naar wordt gemaakt. Het patina ervan is ook niet alledaags, maar het zou onrecht doen aan de specifieke schoonheid van deze stoelen om ze te zandstralen of te schilderen. En er zijn ook maar weinig groen-tinten die me echt bevallen, behalve dan het Ierse groen en deze heldere kleur zee-groen, die je ook regelmatig op meubels ziet.

Yesterday one branch of our olivetree has indeed been broken and the smallest branches are now manufactured into this wreath... That´s taking an advantage from a disadvantage. Our attic is still rough and unfinished, but that´s a nice setting for taking pictures I think. Soon I´ll download a room-planner somewhere on internet and I´ll start to design and furnish this space visually. We don´t know yet if the staircase will stay at the same spot or if it will be built elsewhere. On the pictures are also my cherished old Tolix-chairs which I found last year in a brocante; a real lucky hit, since there seems to be a real hunt on these chairs. The patina isn´t very common as well, but it would be an injustice to their specific beauty to sand-blast or paint them. Anyway there aren´t many tints of green which can please me, except the Irish green and this bright sea-green, which can be seen quite regularly on furniture too.

Hier une des branches de notre olivier a effectivement été cassée et les plus petites branches ont été donc incorporées dans cette couronne... C´est tirer un avantage d´un désavantage. Notre grenier est toujours brut et inachevé, mais ça donne un joli cadre pour prendre des photos, je pense. Bientôt j´irai trouver sur internet un outil de conception 3D et commencer à aménager visuellement cette pièce. Nous ne savons pas si l´escalier va rester au même endroit ou si on le construira ailleurs. Sur les images il y a également mes chères vieilles chaises Tolix que j´avais trouvées l´année dernière dans une brocante; un véritable coup de chance, puisqu´apparemment elles sont bien recherchées. La patine n´est pas banale non plus, mais ce serait une injustice à leur beauté spécifique de les sabler ou peindre. Il n´y a de toute façon que peu de tons verts qui me plaisent, sauf le vert Irlandais et ce vert de mer bien clair, qu´on trouve aussi assez régulièrement sur des meubles.

Stormy weather!

Het stormt hier weer eens geweldig. Daarnet is een van onze grote olijfbomen buiten omgevallen en ik zag de pot eerst al gevaarlijk zwiepen. Straks moet mijn man de schade maar eens bekijken, want ik kan die zware kolos niet alleen weer rechtop zetten. Hopelijk zijn er niet al teveel takken kapot. En anders kan ik die eventueel nog gebruiken voor een olijftakken-krans of zo. Verschillende bloempotten en andere materialen rollen ook gewoon achterom over het erf met die wind. Ik moet dadelijk maar eens de boel bijeen gaan rapen en in de schuur zetten. Vorig jaar vlogen er zelfs nog pannen van ons dak bij stormweer, maar dat euvel is inmiddels ook van de baan met ons nieuwe dak. Een heel geruststellende ervaring dat het daarboven zo rustig blijft! :)

It´s a terribly stormy weather again here. A few minutes ago one of our big olive-trees outside toppled over and just before I saw the pot swishing dangerously. Later on my husband should look at the damage, since I cannot set up that heavy colossus by myself. Hopefully there won´t be too many branches broken. And otherwise I can still use them eventually to make a wreath with. Different flowerpots and other materials are also rolling behind the house over our yard with that wind. I should go outside right away and put all stuff in the barn. Last year some tiles were still blown off the roof during stormy weather, but that trouble has been shelved in the meantime, since we got a new roof. A very reassuring experience that all is staying tranquil up there! :)

Il y a de nouveau une terrible tempête ici. Tout à l´heure un de nos grands oliviers dehors est tombé et j´ai vu d´abord le pot qui bousculait dangereusement. Plus tard mon mari devrait verifier les dégâts, puisque je n´arrive pas tout seule à remettre debout ce lourd colosse. J´espère qu´il n´y a pas trop de branches cassées. Et sinon je pourrais éventuellement les utiliser pour en faire une couronne ou autre chose. Différents pots de fleurs et autres affaires roulent également sur le terrain derrière notre maison par ce vent. Je devrais aller dehors bientôt pour tout ramasser et mettre dans la grange. L´année dernière il y avait encore des tuiles qui s´envolaient de notre toit pendant une tempête, mais à ce mal a été remedié entretemps, puisqu´il y a un nouveau toit. Une expérience très rassurante que tout reste tranquille là-haut! :)

Little correction

Lieve vrienden, ik wil toch even een kleine correctie aanbrengen: in ons huis is het nog lang geen Pasen, hoor. Ik schreef enkel dat de sfeer op de foto´s wel iets weg heeft van Pasen. Maar persoonlijk heb ik alles liever op z´n tijd. Wat vinden jullie daarvan? Fijne maandag voor iedereen!

Dear friends, I just would like to note here a little correction: in our house there´s no Easter at all for the moment. I only wrote that the atmosphere on the pictures looks a bit like Eastertime. But personally I prefer to let first things be first. What do you think about that? I wish you all a nice Monday!

Chers amis, je voudrais seulement noter une petite correction ici: il n´y a rien du tout de Pâques dans notre maison pour l´instant. Je voulais juste dire que l´ambiance sur les images fait penser un peu à Pâques. Personellement je pense qu´il y a un temps pour chaque chose. Et vous, qu´en pensez-vous? Je souhaite à vous tous un bon lundi!

Easter-creations

Toen ik daarnet door mijn foto-bestanden aan het ronddwalen was, kwam ik enkele beelden tegen die ik - zo bij elkaar - een beetje met Pasen associeer. Het Paasfeest is nog een maand of twee weg, maar de eerste creaties zullen binnenkort wellicht alweer op verschillende blogs verschijnen. Ik ben benieuwd wat er na de hype van de vintage beplakte eieren van vorig jaar zoal aan nieuwigheden tevoorschijn zal komen. Misschien een suggestie voor Jeanne d´Arc Living om een Paas-boek op de markt te brengen na het immense succes van het Jul-boek?

When I was browsing through my photo-files right away I found some pictures which I - together like this - associate a little with Spring and Easter. For Easter we still have two months to go, but I guess the first creations will appear soon again on several blogs. I´m curious which will be the newest stuff after last year´s hype of vintage eggs with victorian images. Maybe a suggestion for Jeanne d´Arc Living to put on the market an Easter-book after the huge success of the Jul-book (Christmas)?

Quand j´étais plongée dans mes dossiers-photos tout à l´heure, j´ai trouvé quelques images que j´associe un peu - dans leur ensemble - avec le printemps et Pâques. Il faut encore deux mois pour arriver à Pâques, mais je pense que les premières créations vont probablement apparaître déjà sur différents blogs d´ici peu. Je suis curieuse ce qu´il y aura comme nouveautés après le ´hype´ de l´année dernière des oeufs façon ´vintage´, avec des images anciennes. Peut-être une suggestion pour Jeanne d´Arc Living de lancer un livre de Pâques après l´immense succès du livre ´Jul´ (Noël)?

When I just finished my post I discovered that 2 girls indeed created already some eggs... Heidi at La Flotte and Lotten at Lottens vita och gröna. Just have a look at their gorgeous creations!

Painting & thriftshop-finds

Naast zilveren of verzilverde voorwerpen vind ik tinnen objecten ook heel mooi. Het ronde tinnen potje komt uit de kringloop en is een vondst van vorige week, samen met een mooie tinnen schaal op pootjes. De afgelopen dagen heb ik verschillende meubeltjes geschilderd, waaronder deze Ikea-kruk (Bekväm). Elk van de kinderen krijgt zo´n kruk als zitplaats aan tafel en ze zitten er graag op. Je kunt er al eens op ronddraaien, erop staan, kortom, vele mogelijkheden die een gewone stoel niet biedt! Voor het comfort ligt er een kussentje op, dat ik vastgemaakt heb met een lintje. Vorige week heeft Something White ook een sympathieke award gekregen van de Poolse dame Jagoda: Chata Magoda-blog, waarvoor weer heel hartelijk dank! Al die mooie Poolse blogs zijn misschien nog onbekend terrein voor velen, maar je vindt er hier een lijst van.

Besides silver and silverplated objects I do like tin as well. The round small tin pot is from the thriftshop and a last week´s find, together with a nice tin bowl. In these last days I´ve been painting several furniture, among which this Ikea-tabouret (Bekväm). Each of the kids will have such a tabouret to sit on at table and they like it. You can turn around on it, stand up, in brief, many possibilities which a normal chair doesn´t offer! For their comfort there´s a cushion on it, which I attached with a ribbon. Last week Something White received also a nice award from the Polish lady Jagoda: Chata Magoda-blog, for which I say thank you very much again! All those beautiful Polish blogs are maybe still non-familiar ground for many, but you can find here a list.

A côté d´objets en argent ou objets argentés j´aime également tout ce qui est en étain. Le petit pot rond en étain vient d´une ´kringloopwinkel´ (vente-dépôt) et je l´ai trouvé la semaine dernière, ainsi qu´une jolie coupe en étain. Dans ces derniers jours j´ai paint plusieurs petits meubles, dont ce tabouret d´Ikea (Bekväm). Chacun des enfants va en avoir un pour s´asseoir à table et ça leur plaît. On peut facilement tourner dessus, se mettre debout, bref, plein de possibilités qu´une chaise normale n´offre pas! Pour le confort il y a un coussin dessus, que j´ai attaché avec un ruban. La semaine dernière Something White a reçu aussi un ´award´ de la dame Polonaise Jagoda: du Chata Magoda-blog, pour lequel je dis de nouveau merci beaucoup! Tous ces jolis blogs Polonais sont peut-être encore un terrain inconnu pour beaucoup, mais vous trouverez une liste ici.

Limburg

This beautiful place is the area where I grew up and my parent´s house is situated in the right upper corner of this picture. I had to publish here the 4th picture of my 4th pictures-file, since Karin, Bianca and Maureen tagged me. This photo has been made by a model-helicopter which is equiped with a camera. It´s one of our friends who makes these professional shoots.

This is a nice green part of The Netherlands: Limburg, the most Southern part of that country and Vaals - where I lived during 24 years - is bounded by Germany (Aachen, the town of Charles the Great) and by Belgium.

Of course this area keeps some nice and dear memories for me!
