Coastal colours

Geïnspireerd door Martha van A Beach Cottage-blog kwam ik tot de ontdekking dat we best veel ´kust´-kleuren in ons interieur hebben. Als je op zoek bent hoe je je huis kunt omtoveren tot een Long-Island-strand-stijl en als je nog leuke budget-ideetjes met Ikea-spullen zoekt, ga dan zeker eens haar mooie witte blog bekijken! Zelfs enkele van de verpakkingen van chocolade hebben zulke kust-kleuren... :)

Deze foto´s had ik al enkele dagen geleden hier geplaatst, maar door die fout bij Picasa waren ze dus verdwenen. Het is me niet gelukt om deze plaatjes terug te zetten in mijn vorige post, daarom zet ik ze maar hier. De bijhorende tekst staat hieronder (18 juni).

I uploaded these pictures some days ago, but they were deleted because of an error at Picasa. I tried to upload them again in my previous post, but it didn´t work and so I post them here once again. You´ll find the accessory text down here (June 18th).

Panic

Gisteren ontving ik via mijn Gmail-account een bericht van het Picasa-Team met de mededeling dat er een fout was opgetreden in hun systeem en dat door dat probleem ook ongewild enkele foto´s van sommige blogs verwijderd waren (zie bericht 18 juni, alle foto´s gewist!). Dat is allemaal goed en wel, maar stel nu dat er een heel groot probleem zou optreden bij Blogger zelf en dat de hele blog zou verdwijnen, dan zouden al die uren, al die energie, alle werk voor niets zijn geweest. Ik ben er inmiddels achter gekomen dat je je blog onder de rubriek ´instellingen´ (basis - exporteren) kunt exporteren naar je harde schijf. Het is misschien een tip om dat nu gelijk te doen; al mijn gegevens en blogteksten heb ik nu op een externe harde schijf vastgezet, veilig voor de komende 100 jaar!

Yesterday I received through my Gmail-account a message from the Picasa-Team, saying that there had been a bug in their system and that because of this problem some pictures of different blogs had been removed by error (see post of June 18th, all pictures were deleted!). Let it be so, but what if there would be a real big problem at Blogger itself and the whole blog would dissappear, then all those hours, all the energy, all work would be in vain. I discovered in the meantime that it´s possible to save your blog to your harddisk under ´adjustments´. Maybe you should do this immediately; I saved my things and blogtexts on an external harddisk, protected for the coming 100 years!

Favourite shops

Twee winkels zouden voor mij beter hun deuren moeten sluiten: Dille & Kamille en Oil & Vinegar. Het is elke keer weer een tweestrijd die bij voorbaat verloren is en op het einde van de rit heb ik dan een slecht geweten omdat ik het toch weer niet heb kunnen laten om iets te kopen! De ene winkel sluit bij de andere aan: mooi textiel en prachtige keukenspullen bij D & K en de ingrediënten voor een lekkere (Meditterane) keuken bij O & V. Je komt er altijd ogen tekort en de producten van O & V zijn mooie blikvangers in de keuken. In een vorig nummer van het Duitse woonblad Living & More stond dit ideetje met de houten lepels die je als bloempot-steker kunt gebruiken. De blankhouten lepels en servetringen komen dus van D & K en ik heb ze een shabby laagje witte leemverf gegeven. Daarna heb ik met een zwarte pen de teksten geschreven. Lepels en ringen in bonte kleuren, met stippen of strepen, met servetten beplakt (decoupage)... alles is mogelijk natuurlijk.

Two shops better should close their doors for me: Dille & Kamille and Oil & Vinegar. Every time it´s an inward conflict which is lost in advance and at the end of the trip I´ve a bad conscience because I couldn´t resist to buy something! One shop matches very well the other: beautiful textiles and gorgeous kitchen-things at D & K and the ingredients for a tasty (Meditteranean) kitchen at O & V. You really can stare your eyes out there and O & V´s products are nice eyecatchers in one´s kitchen. In a previous number of the German home-magazine Living & More I found this idea for the wooden spoons which can be used as a flowerpot-label. The pure wooden spoons and napkin-rings are from D & K and I gave them a shabby layer of white loam-paint. Afterwards I wrote the texts with a black pen. Spoons and rings in all sorts of colours, with dots and stripes, by using decoupage... anything is possible of course.

Deux magasins devraient fermer leurs portes pour moi: Dille & Kamille and Oil & Vinegar. Chaque fois c´est un débat intérieur qui est d´avance perdu et à la fin du voyage j´ai une mauvaise conscience, puisque je n´ai pas pu résister à acheter quelque chose! L´un complète très bien l´autre: de beaux textiles et de magnifiques accessoires pour la cuisine chez D & K et les ingrédients pour une bonne cuisine (Méditteranéenne) chez O & V. On n´y détache pas les yeux et les produits d´O & V sont très décoratifs dans la cuisine. Dans un numéro précédent du magazine allemand Living & More j´ai trouvé cette idée pour les cuillères en bois qu´on peut utiliser pour les pots de fleurs et plantes. Les cuillères et les ronds de serviettes en bois sont donc de D & K et je les ai donné une simple couche de blanc de peinture à l´argile. Après j´ai écrit les textes avec un stylo noir. Des cuillères et ronds en toutes les couleurs, avec pois ou rayures, en appliquant du découpage... tout est possible bien sûr.

Different accessories - new setting

Al een tijdje zat er een grote groene viltstiftvlek op het grijze gordijn in de eetkamer. Kleine zoon gooit graag alle stiften op de grond en zonder dop bezorgen ze nogal wat overlast! Het gordijn zit nu in de was, in de hoop dat de vlek eruit zal gaan. Er hangt nu in de plaats een zuiver linnen gordijn in touwkleur. Het geeft gelijk een veel lichtere sfeer in die hoek. Kleine veranderingen van decor en kleur zorgen gelijk voor een heel nieuwe look. Regelmatig zie ik overal nieuwe mooie blogs verschijnen en ik plaats mijn nieuwe links altijd op deze pagina: www.lifestyle.pimpstart.nl. Since quite a while there was a big green feltpen-stain on the grey curtain in our diningroom. Our little son just loves to throw all feltpens on the floor and without their cap they give a lot of inconveniences! The curtain is in the laundry now and I hope the stain will be removed. Instead I put another pure linen curtain in a rope-colour. It gives immediately a different light in that corner. Small changes of setting and colour make a quick different and new look. Regularly I see everywhere new beautiful blogs appearing and I add my new links always to this page: www.lifestyle.pimpstart.nl. Depuis un certain temps déjà il y avait une grande tâche verte de crayon-feutre sur le rideau gris dans notre salle à manger. Notre petit garçon aime jeter tous les crayons par terre et sans leur bouchon ils causent des malheurs! Le rideau est dans la lessive maintenant et j´espère que la tâche disparaîtra. J´ai remis un autre en lin pur à sa place, couleur ficelle. Cela donne tout de suite une autre lumière dans ce coin. Des petits changements de décor et de couleur apportent rapidement un nouveau look différent. Régulièrement je vois apparaître de nouveaux jolis blogs et j´ajoute mes nouveaux liens toujours à cette page publique: www.lifestyle.pimpstart.nl. Vandaag heb ik een boeket lila/wit/paars/geel gekocht; een leuke combinatie. Today I bought a bouquet in lilac/white/purple/yellow; a nice combination. Aujourd´hui j´ai acheté un bouquet en mauve/blanc/pourpre/jaune; un joli mélange.

Beauty & photography

Dear Fru Skrot,

you´ve been talking in one of your last posts about photography and you invited me to show here my best pictures from the inside and outside of our home. But I must admit, I don´t have any ´best´ shots. In the daily ´stress´ of my life as a housewife I try to catch some beauty of material things with my camera. Colours, patterns, designs and materials give me rest and comfort and they can tranquillize my spirit. There´s so much beauty in many little and big things. Some time ago a person made this lovely remark: ´anything in your home seems always to be so smooth´. I think you should emphasize ´seems´ in this sentence... I won´t show you the daily chaos, the dirt, the unfinished rooms in our house, the sauce-stains and pencil-drawings on the walls, the huge mountains of clothes which need to be washed, ironed and folded up. No, I certainly won´t show you my burnt potatoes, nor the bad-working bathroom equipment or some wallpaper which is coming off the wall. My blog is a kind of survival-tool to me, a way to charge my battery and to keep my spirit going on. So my very understanding husband gave me once a very good camera for my birthday and he knew very well why...

Impulsive mood & new project

In een impulsieve stemming heb ik zaterdag-nacht (het was ergens rond 00.30u) een van de grijze kastjes in onze eetkamer wat meer wit geschilderd. Ik moest een muur bijwerken, waar tomatensaus-vlekken op gekomen waren en heb dan ook gelijk maar de kwast over dit kastje gehaald. Ik was blijkbaar in topvorm die nacht. De volgende ochtend moesten we wel even wennen aan het resultaat, want het is nu wel erg wit in die hoek. Het zondag-ochtend-ontbijt hebben we dan ook genuttigd in andere sferen... Uit Finland kreeg ik een oproep voor een challenge; meer daarover is te lezen bij Fru Skrot. In een volgende post zal ik er met plezier op ingaan. In mijn hoofd is het al een tijdje aan het borrelen... In de loop der jaren heb ik zoveel spullen uit kringlopen verzameld, maar het probleem soms is dat we helemaal niet de mogelijkheid hebben om ook daadwerkelijk alles een plaats te geven. Vandaar dat ik ook gehoor ga geven aan de nood-oproep van mijn wanhopige man, om orde op zaken te brengen in mijn hoofd! We kunnen niet blijven doorgaan om alles in kartons te doen en dan maar in een rommelkamer te duwen! Project ´Matisse´ gaat in een volgende fase van start...

In an impulsive mood I painted one of the grey cupboards in our diningroom a little more white Saturday-night (it was around 00.30 a.m). I had to retouch a wall, which had got some tomato sauce-stains and so I continued dragging the brush over this cupboard. I apparently was in top-condition that night. The next morning however we had to get used to the result, because it´s really very white in that corner now. We had our Sunday-morning-breakfast in a different setting anyway... From Finland I received an appeal for a challenge; you can read more of it at the nice Fru Skrot-blog. In a next post I´ll answer it with pleasure. In my head it´s already fizzing quite a while... During the last years I´ve been collecting so many things from thriftstores, but the problem is that we actually don´t have always a place for everything. That´s why I would like to comply with my desperate husband´s request to get things arranged in my head! We cannot go on to put everything in boxes and to stow all in a lumber-room! Project ´Matisse´ will start in a next phase...

Dans une disposition impulsive j´ai paint un des petits meubles gris dans notre salle à manger un peu plus blanc dans la nuit du Samedi (il était autour de 00.30h). J´ai dû peindre un mur qui avait quelques taches de sauce tomate et j´ai donc continué à appliquer la brosse sur ce meuble. Apparemment j´étais en superforme cette nuit-là. Le matin après par contre nous avons dû nous habituer au résultat, puisque ce coin est vraiment bien blanc maintenant. Nous avons pris notre petit-déjeuner de ce Dimanche matin carrément dans une autre ambiance... De la Finlande j´ai reçu un appèl pour un ´challenge´; vous pouvez lire plus là-dessus chez Fru Skrot et dans un prochain post je donnerai avec plaisir ma réponse. Dans ma tête ça bouillonne déjà depuis un certain temps... Pendant les dernières années j´ai ramassé pas mal de choses des dépôt-ventes, mais le problème c´est que nous n´avons pas toujours la possibilité de donner effectivement une place à tout. C´est pourquoi je voudrais répondre à l´appèl de détresse de mon mari désespéré qui m´a demandé de faire surtout de l´ordre dans ma tête! Nous ne pouvons pas continuer à mettre tout dans des cartons et les pousser dans un débarras! Projet ´Matisse´ débutera dans une prochaine phase...

Christofle Paris

Zomaar ergens in een verloren hoek van de kringloopwinkel stond dit verzilverde kandelaartje van het chique Franse merk Christofle Paris. Eigenlijk zou ik het eens goed moeten oppoetsen om het weer in al zijn glans en glorie te laten blinken, maar zoals het nu is, heeft het ook al veel charme.

Just like that, somewhere in a hidden corner of the thriftstore I found this small silverplated candleholder from the ´très chique´ French brand Christofle Paris. I should polish it to give it back all its glory and glamour, but as it is now, it´s very charming as well.

Comme ça, dans un coin perdu du dépot-vente j´ai trouvé ce petit chandelier argenté de la très chique marque française Christofle Paris. Je devrais l´astiquer pour lui rendre toute sa gloire et son éclat, mais comme il est maintenant il a également déjà beaucoup de charme.

Old tiles

Zo´n 6 jaar geleden ben ik ooit eens op een advertentie gestoten van een partij oude (cement)tegels, waarvan we nadien hoorden dat die stuk voor stuk met de hand uit een oude boerderijvloer waren gekapt. De kleinste tegels zijn 7 x 7cm groot en dienden als sierrand in het grotere patroon. Ooit wil ik die tegels nog gaan gebruiken in huis, maar de precieze bestemming moet er nog voor gezocht worden: keuken of badkamer? Op de muur of als vloer? Het wordt nog moeilijk om te gaan kiezen.

About 6 years ago I stumbled upon an advertissement about a lot of old tiles, about which we learned afterwards that they had been taken off an old farmfloor piece by piece. The smallest tiles are 7 x 7cm and they were used as an ornamental border in the bigger pattern. One day I do want to use those tiles in our house, but the exact destination still has to be searched for: kitchen or bathroom? On the wall or on the floor? It will be difficult to make a choice.

Il y a à peu près 6 ans je suis tombée sur une annonce concernant un lot de vieux carrelage, dont nous avions appris plus tard qu´il avait été enlevé pièce par pièce du sol d´une vieille ferme. Les plus petits carreaux ont une taille de 7 x 7cm et faisaient un bord de parement dans le plus grand dessin. Je voudrais encore utiliser un jour ces carreaux, mais la destination exacte doit encore être trouvée: cuisine ou salle de bains? Au mur ou au sol? Le choix ne sera pas facile.
