Creative ladies

Onverwachte cadeau´s, zomaar, als vriendelijk gebaar... Deze keer van 2 getalenteerde en creatieve vrouwen die allebei mooie dingen maken voor huis en interieur: een heel charmante en stevige wasknijper-zak in een mooie grijsblauwe tijkstof, gemaakt door Anita van Atelier Het Weerhuisje. En een leuk stoffen hartje plus een hoesje waar zakdoekjes in passen, die gemaakt zijn door Mellanie van Mellanie Brocante. Niet alleen die zelfgemaakte cadeau´s op zich zijn al een plezier voor het oog, ook de leuke zakjes en papiertjes waarin alles verpakt wordt en de mooie kaarten en labels. Ik ben telkens weer blij verrast als ik die creatieve zendingen en pakjes opendoe. Van harte dank, Anita en Mellanie!

This time from 2 talented and creative women who both make lovely things for home and interior: a very charming and strong clothes-peg-bag in a beautiful greyish blue fabric, made by Anita from Atelier Het Weerhuisje. And a nice linen heart, as well as a small cover for handkerchiefs, made by Mellanie from Mellanie Brocante-Shop. Not only those selfmade gifts are in itself a pleasure for the eye, also the nice bags and papers in which all has been wrapped and the beautiful cards and labels. Cath in our kitchen

Zelfs al heb ik niet gewonnen in de give-away die Margie onlangs organiseerde, toch kreeg ik dit mega-cadeau van haar: een Cath Kidston-set, de enige echte en originele Cath Kidston! Blikvangers voor in de keuken en voor een zomers kokkerellen. De frisse prints van haar stoffen doen gelijk denken aan warme avonden op het terras, een fris glas rosé, barbecue en zo meer. Dat ik erg blij mee ben, hoef ik wellicht niet te zeggen. Van harte dank aan Margie en ook speciaal veel dank aan jullie allen, die goede wensen hebben achterlaten voor onze huwelijksverjaardag! Het heeft me veel plezier gedaan.

Even if I didn´t win Margie´s give-away which she organized recently, I received this great gift from her: a Cath Kidston-set, the only real and original Cath Kidston! Eyecatchers for our kitchen and nice items for a summer cooking. The fresh prints of her fabrics are immediately associated with warm nights on a terrace, a fresh glass of rosé, barbecue and more. I surely don´t need to say how happy I am with this. Même si je n´ai pas gagné au jeu que Margie avait organisé récemment, j´ai reçu ce merveilleux cadeau d´elle: un ensemble de Cath Kidston, un seul véritable et original Cath Kidston! Une jolie touche pour la cuisine et pour cuisiner. Les dessins frais de ses tissus font sans doute penser aux nuits chaudes sur la terrasse, un bon verre de rosé, barbecue et plus encore. Je ne peux évidemment pas nier que je suis très heureuse avec tout cela. He and I...

Het is nu ongeveer 15 jaar geleden dat we elkaar voor de eerste keer ontmoet hebben - in Frankrijk was dat - en vandaag zijn we precies 10 jaar samen als koppel: mijn Litouwse man en ik. Een artiest in hart en ziel, open voor schoonheid in al haar facetten. Zoals vele Litouwers dat zijn: het is een volk van dichters, kunstenaars, schrijvers, zangers, musici... Nu nog, als hij er de tijd voor vindt, is hij graag bezig met zijn kunst, of dat nu het beeldhouwen is, het brons gieten of het maken van sieraden. Maar ook schilderen en tekenen liggen helemaal in de lijn van zijn passies. Zijn brood - en het onze - verdient hij als zelfstandige met alle soorten metaalwerken-op-maat. Op zijn manier is hij dus ook altijd bezig met interieur en vormgeving. Ter ere van onze huwelijksdag daarom deze hommage aan mijn zeer veelzijdige echtgenoot! :)

It´s about 15 years ago now that we met each other for the first time - it was in France - and today we´re exactly 10 years together as a couple: my Lithuanian husband and I. An artist in heart and soul, open-minded for beauty in all its shapes. Like many Lithuaniens are: it´s a nation of poets, artists, writers, singers, musicians... Even now, if he finds some time for doing it, he likes to be busy with his art, whether it´s in sculpture, by founding bronze or in making jewelry. But also painting and drawing are entirely his passions. He earns his living - and ours - as an independant with all kinds of measured-up metalworks. In his way he´s also always working in interior and design. So, at the occasion of our weddingday is today this ´hommage´ to my very versatile husband! :)

C´est à peu près il y a 15 ans que nous nous sommes rencontrés pour la première fois - c´était en France - et aujourd´hui nous sommes exactement 10 ans ensemble en tant que couple: mon mari lithuanien et moi. Un artist dans le coeur et dans l´âme, un esprit ouvert à la beauté en toutes ses formes. Comme le sont beaucoup de Lithuaniens: c´est un peuple de poètes, d´artistes, d´écrivains, de chanteurs, de musiciens... Même maintenant, quand il trouve un peu de temps pour le faire, il aime s´occuper de son art, aussi bien de la sculpture, que de couler le bronze ou de faire des bijoux. Mais peindre et dessiner font également partie de ses passions. Il gagne son pain - et le nôtre - en tant qu´indépendant dans toutes sortes de travaux en métal sur mesure. À sa manière il s´occupe donc aussi toujours d´intérieur et de design. Aujourd´hui donc, à l´occasion de l´anniversaire de notre mariage, cet hommage à mon très universel mari! :)

Trifling work

Vandaag bracht weer een handjevol buurkinderen de namiddag door bij ons en hoewel de zon volop scheen buiten, zijn we binnen aan de slag gegaan met lucifersdoosjes, vintage plaatjes, papier en touw. En zo hebben we een paar doosjes beplakt en voor hun mama´s een ´cornet´ gemaakt van oud muziekpapier, met gedroogde lavendel erin. Today some children of our neighbourhood passed their afternoon in our home and though the sun was shining brightly outside we did some trifling work inside with match-boxes, vintage images, paper and ribbon. And so we pimped some boxes and we made some ´cornets´ for their mum, with old musicpaper and filled with dried lavender. Aujourd´hui quelques-uns de nos petits voisins ont passé leur après-midi chez nous et bien qu´il y avait le soleil dehors nous nous sommes occupés à l´intérerieur avec des boîtes à allumettes, des images ´vintage´, du papier et des rubans. Et ainsi nous avons décoré quelques boîtes et nous avons préparé des ´cornets´ pour leurs mamans, faits de papier-musique ancien et remplis avec de la lavande sêchée. Outdoor & terrace

Soms zitten we bij goed weer op het terras achterom en bedenken dan dat dit misschien het laatste jaar is dat we hier nog kunnen zitten. Volgend jaar zal dit deel van ons erf hopelijk al opnieuw bebouwd zijn en verhuizen we ons ´outside-living´ naar een andere plek, in de toekomstige tuin. Ikea had vroeger deze witte kunststof ´Svinga´ hangstoel in de collectie, maar tegenwoordig alleen nog maar blauwe. Ik wilde per se de witte versie hebben en kon deze nog wel tweedehands via Kapaza vinden. De kinderen hebben er buiten de grootste lol mee als ze eerst het koord helemaal opdraaien en dan het geheel laten losschieten, waardoor de stoel als een tol in het rond draait. Eigenlijk was hij bedoeld om boven op zolder op te hangen, maar nu is hij bevestigd aan een ijzeren stang die mijn man tussen de woning en de schuur heeft vastgemaakt. Het is een leuke variant op een gewone schommel natuurlijk.

Sometimes we´re sitting behind the house on our terrace when the weather is alright and then we remember that it´s maybe the last year that we can sit here. Next year this part of our yard hopefully will be built on already and then we´ll move our ´outside-living´ to another spot, in our future garden. Ikea had this white synthetic-fibre hanging seat ´Svinga´ it its collection during a period, but now you only will find the blue ones (in Belgium/The Netherlands anyway). I wanted to have the white version by all means and it´s still possible to find it secondhand. The kids have so much fun outside with this seat by turning around the string and then let it go in a wild ride. Actually it was meant to be fixed on our attic, but for the moment it´s hanging on an iron bar which my husband fixed between our house and the barn. It´s a nice variant on the classic swing of course.

Parfois nous sommes assis derrière la maison sur notre terrasse quand le temps est beau et nous nous disons que ce pourrait être la dernière année que nous y soyons. L´année prochaine ce côté de notre cour sera batî on espère et on déplacera alors notre ´vie de plein air´ vers un autre endroit, dans notre futur jardin. Chez Ikea il y avait dans le temps ce siège suspendu ´Svinga´ en fibre synthétique blanche, mais aujourd´hui il n´y a ce siège qu´en bleu. Je voulais absolument la version blanche et c´était encore possible de la trouver d´occasion. Les enfants s´amusent tellement dehors en tournant la corde au maximum pour la relâcher après et que le siège tourne comme fou. Il était en fait prévu pour le fixer au grenier, mais pour l´instant il est suspendu à une barre en fer que mon mari a fixée entre la maison et la grange. C´est une variante sympa de la balançoire classique bien sûr.

Fleamarket-finds

Naar Brugge ben ik niet meer gegaan vorige zondag, het was veel te warm voor mij en ik was al blij dat ik de plaatselijke rommelmarkt zonder zonnesteek doorstaan had. Ik voelde me na een uurtje rondlopen over de markt in onze stad al niet helemaal in orde, want ik verdraag die hitte echt niet goed en daarom ben ik ook niet meer naar Brugge doorgereden. Voor degenen die later nog naar dé brocante-markt/Zandfeesten van Brugge willen gaan, zijn er nog volgende data: zondag 2 augustus en zondag 27 september a.s. Deze keer ben ik naar huis gegaan met enkele delen van het Boch-Copenhagen-servies dat ik verzamel en met 2 zinken teilen en 2 zinken emmers. De terrine en het bord hieronder op de foto heb ik voor niets gekregen, omdat ze niet meer gaaf zijn door de haarlijnen en afgebroken stukjes in het porselein. Vandaag kreeg ik ook nog als klapper op de vuurpijl een pakket met een zesdelige set soepkommen en bordjes van dit servies helemaal gratis van Marianne - Songbird is nesting. Ik zweef op wolkjes!... Dankjewel voor dit zeer vrijgevige gebaar!

I didn´t go to Bruges last Sunday, since it was really too hot for me outside and I was happy that I hadn´t got any sunstroke that day while walking through our local fleamarket. I didn´t feel too well after one hour walking there, because I really cannot stand the heat and that´s why I was happy to stay at home for the afternoon. For those who want to go later on to Bruges´ most famous fleamarket (´Zandfeesten´), there´ll be next days: Sunday August 2nd and Sunday September 27th. This time I went home with some more pieces of the Boch-Copenhague-china which I collect and with 2 zinc tubs and 2 zinc buckets. I could take the covered dish and plate down here on the picture for free, because they weren´t intact anymore due to some fissures and broken chips in the porcelain. Today I received as the crowning sensation a parcel with a 6-pieces-set of soupbowls and dishes of this same china from Marianne - Songbird is nesting. I´m so happy with this generous gift, you can imagine! Thank you very much for this!

Je ne suis plus allée à Bruges dimanche dernier, puisqu´il faisait trop chaud dehors pour moi et j´étais déjà contente de ne pas avoir attrapé un coup de soleit ce jour-là en me balladant sur le marché aux puces dans notre ville. Après une heure au marché je ne me sentais plus très bien à cause de la chaleur et je suis restée à la maison l´après-midi. Pour celles/ceux qui veulent encore aller à la grande brocante de Bruges (´Zandfeesten´) plus tard, il y aura encore ces dates-ci: dimanche 2 août et dimanche 27 septembre. Cette fois-ci je suis rentrée à la maison avec quelques pièces de la vaisselle Boch-Copenhague que je collectionne et avec 2 cuvettes en zinc, ainsi qu´avec 2 seaux en zinc également. Je pouvais prendre la terrine et l´assiette ci-dessus sur la photo gratuitement, puisqu´elles ne sont plus intactes à cause de quelques fissures et écailles dans la porcelaine. Aujourd´hui j´ai encore reçu aussi un colis avec 6 tasses à soupe et des petites assiettes de cette même vaisselle de Marianne - Songbird is nesting. Je suis tellement heureuse avec ce geste généreux, vous imaginez bien! Merci beaucoup pour cela!

Sunday occupations

Op mijn to-do-lijst vandaag: de brocante-markt in onze stad T. en misschien ook nog even een uitstap naar Brugge, waar vandaag weer de eerste grote antiek- en brocantemarkt van het zomerseizoen plaatsvindt. Ik heb er al vele verhalen over gehoord, maar ben er zelf nog nooit naartoe gegaan, hoewel we er vlakbij wonen. De drukte van dit soort markten spreekt me niet echt aan en om nu al om 4 uur uit mijn bed te stappen om de meute te vermijden... ´k weet nie... Misschien dat ik toch maar ga om wat foto´s voor jullie te maken.

On my to-do-list today: the fleamarket in our town T. and maybe also a trip to the city of Bruges, where the first big antique-market of this Summer takes place again. I heard already many stories about this market, but I never did visit it, although we live nearby. The bustle of this kind of events doesn´t really appeal on me and to get out of my bed very early in the morning in order to avoid the big crowd... don´t know... Maybe I´ll go anyway to take some pictures for you.

Sur ma liste des-choses-à-faire aujourd´hui: le marché aux puces dans notre ville T. et peut-être aussi une visite à Bruges, où aura lieu pour la première fois de cette saison de nouveau la grande brocante. J´ai déjà entendu pas mal d´histoires sur ce marché, mais je n´y suis jamais allée, et pourtant nous habitons tout près. Ce genre d´évènements ne m´attire guère et pour me lever très tôt le matin pour éviter la grande foule... je sais pas... Peut-être j´irai quand même pour prendre quelques photos pour vous.

De pioenrozen hebben het een tijdje volgehouden in mijn vaas, maar gisteren vielen de blaadjes al op de grond. Resultaat: toch een mooi samenraapsel van verwelkte bloemen...

The peonies did it quite good in my vase during a while, but yesterday their petals did fall on the ground. Result: anyhow a nice hodge-podge of faded flowers...

Les pivoines ont bien tenu dans mon vase pendant un certain temps, mais hier elles ont perdu leur pétales. Résultat: malgré tout une jolie scène de fleurs fanées...

My potatoe-bag-cushion

Van éen van mijn jute-zakken - noem ze gerust aardappelzakken - heb ik weer een kussenhoes gemaakt op een eenvoudige manier. Aan de zak zelf hoefde ik niets meer te doen, dat is uiteraard een kant-en-klare hoes, hoewel ik er aan het uiteinde misschien nog sisaltouwtjes aan ga vastnaaien om de zak effectief dicht te kunnen trekken. Het gehaakte kleedje komt uit de kringloop en dat heb ik er gewoon met zo´n speciale plakstrook (om bijv. gordijnen om te zomen) op vast gestreken. Charmant resultaat, of? De jute-zak (uit de legerdump) kostte nog geen 2 euro, het kleedje slechts 20 cent en voor een leuk bedrag heb je zo een tof kussen! Verder ben ik gisteren weer thuis gekomen met een flinke lading porselein uit de kringloop: deze keer van Poolse en Duitse origine, met een liefelijk bloemetjes-dessin dat straks mooi zal staan op onze tafel.

Of one of my jute-bags - you may call them potatoe-bags - I made a cushion-cover again in a simple way. It wasn´t necessary to change anything about the bag, since it´s a ready-to-use cover, although I might fix some sisal cords at the end in order to close the cover. The crochet-doily is from the thriftstore and I simply fixed it on the bag with ironing tape. Charming result, isn´t it? The jute-bag (from an armystock) didn´t even cost 2 euros, the doily was just 20 cents and so you get a great cushion-cover for little money! Furthermore I came home from the thriftstore yesterday with a big load of china: this time of Polish and German origin, with a lovely flowerprint which will be nice on our table afterwards.

D´un de mes sacs en jute - on peut les appeler également sacs de pommes de terre - j´ai fabriqué de façon simple de nouveau une housse de coussin. Le sac en tant que tel n´avait pas besoin de changements, puisque c´est déjà une housse ainsi, prête à être utilisée, mais je fixerai peut-être encore des cordes de sisal pour effectivement pouvoir fermer cette housse. La petite nappe crochetée vient du dépôt-vente et je l´ai fixé tout simplement en l´y repassant avec une bande collante. Un charmant résultat, non? Le sac en jute n´a même pas coûté 2 euros, la petite nappe n´était que 20 centimes et ainsi on aura une chouette housse de coussin pour peu d´argent! Ensuite je suis revenue du dépôt-vente/kringloopwinkel hier avec une grosse fournée de vaisselle: cette fois-ci d´origine polonaise et allemande, avec un dessin de jolies fleurs qui iront bien sur notre table après.
